Good morning and welcome to Bethel Church. We’re pleased that Alan Hodgkinson is back again today to bring God’s message to us. Although Alan and his wife, Sue, moved from Northwich last year, they have only recently found the right place in Wales for them to make their future home. There is a lot of work to be done before they’ll be ready to move in but we all pray that the ‘renovation’ goes well and that the work won’t take too long.
This morning we will re-visit James chapter 3. When Alan was last with us, we were challenged by James on the use (or misuse) of our tongues (verses 1-12). Today we consider what James calls two kinds of wisdom. Following on from the teaching Alan brought to us a few weeks ago we see that the letter of James is a practical handbook for living out the Christian faith, as James puts it “faith without works is no faith at all”. Today we see how we can exercise our ‘wisdom’ to build up the church or tear it down. Once again be prepared for a deep personal challenge.
“Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show it by his good life, by
deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom.”
James 3:13-18 (NIV)
