Good morning and welcome to Bethel Church. Mike Bedford, one of our church elders, is our speaker today and he will be telling us about Joseph and thinking about lessons that we can learn from his life and character. We will be looking at the scripture in Genesis 40 ‘The Cupbearer and the Baker’ (p.44).
In Genesis:39 we learn how Joseph has been thrown into prison by his master, because he was framed by his master’s wife when he rejected her seduction. He is now joined by two others - the king’s cupbearer and the baker who were locked up because they had offended their master, Pharaoh the king of Egypt, and he is angry with them. Of course, it’s no coincidence that they end up in the same dungeon as Joseph – Genesis 39:21-23 tells us that the LORD is with Joseph, that He is working for Joseph’s success even though it all seems to be going a bit pear shaped at this stage. The arrival of these two servants of Pharaoh and their dreams about imaginary gardens will be a turning point for Joseph.
““We both had dreams,” they answered, “but there is no-one to interpret them.” Then Joseph said to them, “Do not interpretations belong to God? Tell me your dreams.””
