Good morning and welcome to our Family Service. Mike Bedford, one of our elders, is speaking to us today about the Fatherhood of God - this is particularly appropriate as today is Father's Day. Mike will be reading from Luke 15:11-32 (p.1049), the story of the prodigal son.

Jesus uses this well known parable to teach us perhaps the Bible’s most outstanding lesson. Here in fact we have the parables of the Lost Sheep, the Lost Coin and the Lost Son. Three different parables, all pointing to one message - God delights when that which was lost, is found.

Jesus said that he had come into the world with one purpose. There was one focus in all of his life and ministry. And Luke 19:10 sums it up for us when Jesus says that he has come “to seek and to save what was lost”.

“’My son, the father said, ‘you are always with me, and everything I have is yours. But we had to celebrate and be glad, because this brother of yours was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’”

Luke 15:11-32 (NIV)
